CHOLLERTON PARISH HISTORY SOCIETY
Following the successful reprint of the Barrasford and Gunnerton Historical Village Atlas there are only a few copies left for sale. Copies for loan are available via the committee or from the church (contact Mike Slade), Bellingham Heritage Centre, Hexham Library and the County Archive at Woodhorn.
The scanning of Emily Dickinson`s large archive of photographs is continuing, thanks to the help of Jan Maddison. We are very grateful to John, Val and Alan for allowing us to copy them.
Oral history recording is continuing with two new recruits to assist us. This is an interesting and enjoyable way to learn about the way our villages lived.
Our 2012 programme starts in March with a walk around Gunnar Peak East, followed by tea and cake at Gunnerton Church. All welcome but note the terrain is rough and steep and suitable clothing and footwear should be worn. A programme of talks will start in May with a local speaker
The History Society welcomes any new or former residents with an interest in their local area. For further information contact: 01434 689432.

The Hall is a Community Venue. Please come along to help with a general clean and tidy-up, sort cupboards etc on Saturday 4th from 9am, even if you can only spare a half-an-hour.
If you have any ideas about how you would like the village hall to celebrate the Queen`s Diamond Jubilee or would like to get involved in helping organise an event please contact a member of the Committee.
2012 looks like being a busy year for the Hall judging by the number of new groups using the hall and private function bookings. If you are a member of a group that meets regularly perhaps you would consider the Village Hall or the Supper Room as a venue.
Many thanks to ACM Photography for raising £110 on the Portrait Photography Day in November 2011. Thank you to the intrepid group who went carol singing around Gunnerton and Barrasford on 20th December, raising £260 for the Hall.
A big thank you to Margaret Richardson for making the mince pies and shortbread for the Christmas Dunkers. The Christmas Bingo raised £263.50 and the Pantomime £248.00 and was a very entertaining evening.
We wish to try out the bowls carpet we have acquired and need to borrow a set of bowls to do that. If it`s possible to play bowls in the main hall then the Committee will buy a set of their own. Contact 681749.
The Village Hall now has 60 place settings, bowls, plates (side and dinner) and cutlery. This has been purchased using the donations collected at the Vicarage `Open House`. The crockery and cutlery will primarily be used by Messy Church but are available for use by all groups using the Hall and can be borrowed for other events in the Parish.
Toddler Group meets on alternate Thursdays, February 9th.

Hadrian Awards 2007
Gunnerton Church has been given a prestigious Hadrian Award. Hadrian Awards celebrate and promote the best in architecture and design of the built environment in the North East and Cumbria.
To be selected for an award, schemes must meet a number of criteria, including being fit for purpose, and be an innovative trail-blazer. Both these aspects of the Award and more have been met.
The award is a tribute to Vincente Stienlet of Gosforth, our architect, who was sympathetic to the heritage of the church, the needs of the congregation and the community.
